CSUN Chapter History

Two ladies, Evelyn Torres and Eva Castaneda, were inspired to establish a Latina based support system/organization at California State University Northridge. They wanted to find women who shared their similar goals, interests, aspirations, and a place where they could be themselves.

On October 3, 2003, they founded Hermanas Unidas de California State Northridge and became recognized by Associated Students on October 14, 2003.

About Us

About our Symbol

The Quinto Blossom is our focal point of the HaU logo. The blossom tells the story of the Hermana. A story of a young woman, on the path to enlightenment.

The winding stem, which symbolizes the challenging yet rewarding road towards education and personal growth. Her path leads to El Quinto Sol. Which is where her sacrifices, her experiences, and rewarding relationships that she has built is shown. The Hermana is a symbol of a woman that traveled a challenging road to becoming a woman of truth. The Quinto blossom will always be that reminder of whom we all are, where we came from, and keeping a clear view of the road ahead…through Hermandad.

Mission Statement

Hermanas Unidas provides undergraduate, graduate, and professional leadership opportunities and resources to predominately Latina/Chicana students by participating in and organizing academic, community service, and social events/workshops.
